Description
The data streaming project engineers producing the the next MUSR detector would like to test their streaming equipment as a full mock-up including a connection to a standard IBEX instrument control VM. The aim is broadly to allow configuration and control of the data streaming hardware - including possible pulse shape monitoring/adjustment?
_Acceptance Criteria:_
- [ ] 1. IBEX is upgraded to the current version along with any IBEX VM dependencies (e.g. git, 7-zip, MOXA driver - to match existing instrument versions).
- [ ] 2. Customize and define (where necessary) any items for the new instrument VM (configuration names, data paths etc.)
- [ ] 3. Operation tested with simulated data as required - just to demonstrate connections are working?
- [ ] 4. Test data can be successfully archived and viewed by Mantid etc. as required for science during cycle?
- [ ] 5. Data and any instrument VM based connections are explicitly vetted to avoid interference with the current MUSR instrument.
**Notes:**
SUPERMUSR is a new VM which will run on the _new_ MUSR server hardware (which will be renamed as per standard naming conventions to MUSR in due course when the old MUSR hardware is replaced). The SUPERMUSR instrument VM test is expected to be run during the next ISIS cycle (25_4) with streaming data provided from selected Muon instrument detectors in R55. Most settings should hopefully be available from existing MUSR configurations for this (although it's certainly important that there is no risk of any cross talk with live MUSR equipment). It should be emphasized that acceptance criteria 3. and 4. are purely speculative and are only acting as placeholders - full streaming data is not expected to travel via this instrument computer. There is a proposal that some pulse shape sampling measurements of the detector spectra may be made on the VM where the VM might be seen analogously as acting similarly in measuring/controlling/modifying the detector "thresholds" (as do the current MUON instruments) but via a different mechanism.
