Description

Hi Dataverse team,

At Scholars Portal, one of our community members asked about if it's possible to use "Ancient Greek" as a language in the dataset metadata. I saw that this language is not currently part of ISO 639-1, but is part of ISO 639-2/3. I see in #4589 that there is discussion of adding other languages from these standards, and in #4642 a language was added from ISO 639-3.

What I am wondering at this point is if the IQSS team is open to PRs to add individual languages from ISO 639-3, and if so, if there is anywhere else they need to be added besides in scripts/api/data/metadatablocks/citation.tsv (then running the required curl command to install).

Research direction

Start by reviewing scripts/api/data/metadatablocks/citation.tsv and the discussions in issues #4589 and #4642. Check the required curl installation command referenced in the issue. Done would mean confirming the supported process and making Ancient Greek available in dataset language metadata if individual ISO 639-3 additions are accepted.
