Description

Hi - I queried to see if there was already an issue for this but maybe I'm not using the correct search terms but couldn't see anything similar. Apologies if there is already a similar issue and/or if the functionality already exists in Dataverse..

So ADA would like to set an expiry date for access to restricted files after access has been granted. Once that expiry date is reached, the access is revoked and the affected users get notifications and emails telling them of the revoked access.

There will be different durations required for datasets depending on the user type. For example, some datasets are used for both training purposes and for research purposes. The users granted access for training purposes would only be allowed access for 3 weeks (just as an example) whereas a researcher would be granted access for much longer, perhaps infinitely.

This has come up several times in ADA's workflows with our Dataverse users so it would definitely be of benefit to us and perhaps others.

Research direction

No files, tests, or entry points are identified in the issue. Start by locating Dataverse’s restricted-file approval, access-revocation, and notification flows; done means supporting user-type-specific expiry durations, revoking access at expiry, and notifying affected users.
