Description
Summary:
Provide users with visibility into the storage size of their individual data deposits and include the total storage HDV provides free of charge
Description:
Currently, users cannot see how much storage each of their deposits consumes. This lack of transparency can make it difficult for users to manage their data effectively, especially when working within storage quotas or institutional limits.
Proposed Solution:
Add a “Storage Size” field or indicator to the user interface for each data deposit. This could appear:
In the dataset summary or metadata view
In the dataset listing table/dashboard
As part of the deposit confirmation or overview
Ideally, the size would be displayed in a human-readable format (e.g., MB/GB) and reflect the total size of all files within the deposit.
Benefits:
Helps users manage their storage more efficiently
Increases transparency and awareness of resource use
Supports institutions in monitoring and enforcing storage limits
Enhances user trust by providing more detailed information about their deposits
Optional Enhancements:
Add a summary view showing total storage used across all deposits (in root, in collections, under linked accounts)
Enable filters or sorting by storage size
Display storage usage over time or with version history
