Description
Overview of the Feature Request
In addition to the terms of use and license (e.g., CC0, MIT, Apache), depositors should be able to create and display a dataset copyright statement on the dataset page, as shown in the image below.
What kind of user is the feature intended for?
(Example users roles: API User, Curator, Depositor, Guest, Superuser, Sysadmin)
- Depositors
- Guests
- Downloaders
What inspired the request?
Dataverse depositors at UVA have expressed the need to display a University copyright notice on certain datasets.
What existing behavior do you want changed?
Currently, the software has no functionality (API or GUI) to define/set, or display a dataset's copyright notice. Its terms of use and/or licence is not sufficient for this purpose.
Any brand new behavior do you want to add to Dataverse?
Yes. Some mechanism (e.g., a text box on the UI, a setting on the dataset, a field in the API) to enable users to set and display their dataset's copyright notice in proximity to the dataset license, as shown in the image above.
Any open or closed issues related to this feature request?
None that I found.
Are you thinking about creating a pull request for this feature?
No.

Research direction
Review the dataset page and the existing terms-of-use or license UI, then trace the corresponding API paths for dataset metadata. Done means depositors can set a copyright statement through the GUI or API and guests and downloaders can see it near the dataset license.
