Description

What steps does it take to reproduce the issue?
The way Dataverse currently works, if a file is restricted in the latest version, access is also controlled in the earlier versions (even if the file was no restricted before). However, it's not immediately obvious in the interface as the dataset page file table doesn't show the lock icon on earlier versions (although the download menu 'correctly' shows only 'Request Access' option.

  • Which page(s) does it occurs on? Dataset page, haven't checked file page.

  • To whom does it occur (all users, curators, superusers)? all

  • What did you expect to happen? It should be visibly obvious that a file is restricted, possibly also noting that the file was previously unrestricted.

Which version of Dataverse are you using? latest ~6.7

Research direction

Start at the SPA dataset page's file table and compare how restriction status is rendered for the latest and earlier file versions. Reproduce the issue with a file restricted in a later version, then verify that earlier versions visibly show the lock state while the download menu continues to offer only Request Access.
