decide the fate of the checklist feature

I'm not sure what the checklist feature is or is intended to be. It is certainly not complete, but it is in main. It was added in January of 2023. If this feature is no longer a priority, the entire module can be deleted.

Start by locating the checklist module and reviewing its history, including its January 2023 addition, to determine what the feature is intended to do. Done means the project has a clear decision about whether the checklist feature remains a priority; if it does not, the entire module is removed.
