STET not working from non-GCP linux instances, was working

In March I successfully used STET from an ubuntu on VM Workstation along with a Conf Computing instance in GCP and Thales Ciphertrust 2.7 and was able to move files and encrypt/decrypt. I returned back to my lab environment today and the ubuntu stet command hangs. Stet works from the confidential instance in GCP. the CipherTrust has been upgraded to CM2.8. I tried to use STET from another Linux (RH8) instance and STET hangs same as it did on the Ubuntu. Any suggestions? The CM is in AWS, so not likely a network issue either to GCP or from GCP KMS to the AWS CM instance.
