Description

The Advanced Flux Update (AFU) is an R&D project by Peter Norris and Andrea Molod to improve between refresh updates to solar fluxes. This issue is to bring it into git, provide an MKL option for the non-linear least squares solver, and couple it to RRTMGP, for the moment instead of RRTMG. CVS RRTMG coupling was messy but can be brought in later if needed. Zero-diff only in the sense that will be off by default for now.

Research direction

The issue names the Advanced Flux Update, an MKL option for its non-linear least squares solver, and coupling to RRTMGP, but names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the AFU and RRTMGP code in the repository and determine the existing RRTMG coupling path; done means AFU is tracked, the MKL option is available, and the RRTMGP coupling is present and off by default.
