Add a multiplexed dimension?

Gicmo and I discussed this during the nix implementation in relacs. When one considers the streaming of data coming from DAQ boards, they are often multiplexed. Such a dimension would be handy in such cases. Further, during TF meetings, the question was raised whether we can support recordings with gaps in them.
