e2e tests for actions hitting backend APIs

### Description

Follow up to a regression on 1.12 release where the frontend call to backend API was broken.

All frontend actions that hit a backend API should be tested to avoid this type of regression.

NOTE: It might be worth breaking this down into smaller sub tasks but for now, capturing this as an issue.
