New user experience.

Need to at *least* fully document the various state flows a new user might go through. There are variants like "not even run ED yet", "ran ED in the past, but deleted all Journal files".

If anything seems particularly confusing once this is documented then open issues for changing the code to make it better, even if only through popups/prompts.
