xref issue #963 on the new component build bot, media_ and unit_ tests are timing out (10,000s timeout), while they used to complete in that time w/ static build
focusing on media b/c it's smaller. I'll paste in my notes soon.
this is high priority b/c it affects whether we can keep our MFYI bot in the short term
