Description

What problem will this feature address?

When deploying a static website and you have a link to your other HTML site about.html, it then shows /about.html.

Describe the solution you'd like

Would it be possible to automatically strip away the .html extension?

It should be possible in the NGINX configuration. (Maybe controlled via a checkbox so it's no breaking change)

Describe alternatives you've considered

Tried Traefik middlewares but I think they only work for incoming requests or I just haven't got it working.

Additional context

No response

Will you send a PR to implement it?

No

Research direction

Start by locating the NGINX configuration and deployment settings used for static websites. Check how optional deployment behavior is exposed, then determine how extensionless links should resolve without breaking existing .html URLs; done means a configurable deployment produces the expected clean URLs.
