Description

Now that we have quote posts (thanks!) boosting takes 2 taps. But a lot of the time quote posting isn’t allowed. Is it reasonable to have that visible in the boost button itself? E.g. make it look one way on a post where boosting is the only option and a different way when quoting is also possible.

I’m suggesting that when quotes aren’t allowed, a boost-only button is shown. Tapping it just boosts in one tap like the app used to do. It doesn’t bring up a menu that has quoting disabled.

And when quoting is allowed, have the button look a bit different so it’s clear that tapping it will bring up the option to quote or boost like it does now.

I guess I don’t mind the menu popping up when I have 2 choices. But I’m annoyed by having to tap to bring up a menu, when there’s only one usable option on the menu anyway.

Thanks for considering it.

Research direction

Start by locating the boost button and quote-post action in the SwiftUI mobile app, then trace how the app determines whether quoting is allowed. Compare the existing one-tap boost behavior with the current quote-or-boost menu; done means unavailable quotes use a direct boost action while allowed quotes retain a visibly distinct menu action.
