Sidebar open and close animation is extremely slow and choppy

### Current Behavior

Clicking the "hide sidebar" button results in an extremely slow and choppy animation.

### Steps to Reproduce

1.Click the hide/show hamburger menu button at the top left of the ui

### Expected Behavior

The animation is either smooth and quick or it's just a toggle between states (no animation is better than the current situation)
