motivated by https://github.com/USGS-R/lake-temperature-model-prep/pull/3#discussion_r193895415: i wonder if the build/status directory really needs to mirror the directory structure of the main repo so that it's easy to select and .gitignore all build/status files describing .ind files in specific folders...
