Sub-issues:

  • #769 — ngmix reduced-χ² anomaly on stars (error model)
  • #775 — HSM: measure PSF/star shapes directly in sky coords, drop the WCS re-transform

Research direction

Review sub-issues #769, #775, #662, and #585 to understand the separate measurement-quality problems, and compare them with the verification-test scope in #765. Done means determining and addressing the relevant star/PSF quality work without conflating these threads.
