API using dynamic prompt/wildcard

Is it possible to use default API script from example with dynamic prompt/wildcards (like `{black|red|white}`)? Seems like it doesn't work if I just put string like that in node of json prompt. I understand that this can be achieved by some python scripting shenanigans but are there any other, _'out-of-box'_, solutions?
