Description

I don't find a suggestions like this and I find it fascinating that mathematics can so accurately describe the beauty of nature. The Barnsley fern and Phyllotaxis challenges brought it to my mind.

Awhile back, I came across a web page created in 2008, titled Seashells: the plainness and beauty of their mathematical

It was created by Jorge Picado from the mathematics department at the University of Coimbra in Portugal
Shown are many examples of the mathematical representation of various sea shell types in nature.
Sprinkled throughout are links to Wolfram Math, the American Mathematical Society etc. and the bibliography list 10 different sources.

Once I came to the Basic Model page my eyes began to roll back a bit with the three dimesional polar coordinate math.

There is a wonderful Einstein quote on the main page:
How can it be that mathematics, being after all a product of human thought which is independent of experience, is so admirably appropriate to the objects of reality? Is human reason, then, without experience, merely by taking thought, able to fathom the properties of real things?
