Description
The idea would be to create a piece of hardware that would allow the audience of a small seminar to engage with speakers in a moderated panel. The hardware device would be desirable instead of phone usage, as the context of a phone would imply more distractions, and would prevent people from being maximally present. (notifications, etc.)
I am imagining a device that could have one of several specs:
1. with just **3 buttons for voting**, Agree/Disagree/Pass. It could be as simple as this, and would always vote on the most recent comment.
2. Further, it could also have an **LED digit display, with one or two buttons to cycle numbers** on that display. The recent comments could be listed on screen in a custom widget built on the pol.is API. The comments could be numbered, so that people could cycle through the comments they haven't yet responded to.
The devices could use mesh IoT technology like LoRa, for which we already have expertise in our Toronto community. The devices would likely be simple, and would talk to a server that would handle to bulk of the work talking to the pol.is conversation.

Research direction
Start by investigating how the Pol.is API might support user management, then compare the proposed hardware technologies, including LoRa. The issue is complete only when a concrete device scope and a path for communicating with a server handling the Pol.is conversation are defined.
