Bug: Version option doesn't create a versioned release

### Current behavior

When we pass in the version parameter, our expectation is that it's going to create a versioned release. What happens instead is that the version number of the CLI itself is printed.

Don't have a publicly available repro but here's the list of options from the official CLI help.
