Description

Hello everyone,

I’m not sure if this is the correct place to report an issue; if it isn’t, please feel free to move this thread to the appropriate section.

I’ve been using CachyOS for over a year, and I’m very satisfied with it. However, there is one problem that, when it occurs, forces me to format my PC and reinstall everything from scratch.

I still don’t know exactly what causes this error. It happens when I restore a snapshot using Btrfs Assistant. My system automatically creates snapshots whenever I install new packages via pacman or when system updates are applied.

Most of the time, when I restore a snapshot, the system returns to the saved state without any issues. However, in some specific cases, when restoring a particular snapshot, the system attempts to reboot and, before reaching the GDM screen, it drops into “Emergency Mode” and asks for the root password. I saw someone mention the same issue on the CachyOS section of Distrowatch, and according to that person, they managed to fix it by editing their /etc/fstab. I even tried removing some disks from /etc/fstab that were being mounted at boot, but had no luck — especially since I’m still a Linux beginner.

I would like to kindly ask that if anyone knows what might be causing this issue, please explain how to fix it. It would be even more convenient if a CachyOS developer could create a command that we could run whenever “Emergency Mode” appears, automatically fixing the issue.

I'm running CachyOS with Gnome and my PC specs is: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT.

At the moment, this is the only negative point I have regarding CachyOS. It’s very disappointing to have to format the PC just to resolve the problem.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.
