Format Date Function needed

I'm trying to keep this project ongoing and would just like to throw requests out to help people who are wanting to get involved in contributing to open source projects a little experience. Feel free to submit.

I was thinking about creating a function that can take either a string or a date, pull out the month, day, and year and return back a friendly string date used for something like reports. output would be something like 1/1/2023. Sometimes you get Tue Jan 17 2023 09:25:39 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time) this back from a sever and would just like to make it a little more friendly.
