Rating doesn't work with template tags

When I add the rating manually to the directive everything works fine.

If I try and add it as a template tag nothing registers and the stars do not fill.

Also having trouble changing the color. Any thoughts?

Start by reproducing the example with a template expression for rating, then compare it with a manually supplied value. Investigate the component's rating and color inputs; done means template-provided ratings fill the stars and the requested color is applied.
