Using Azure Front Door Standard with Custom Roles Function Client Principal is always null

Description
I set up my application with the custom role assignment function per the below tutorial

My ClientPrincipal is populated and has my custom role assigned
I then added my app to a Front Door Standard per the below tutorial
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/static-web-apps/front-door-manual#update-static-web-app-configuration
ClientPrincipal is now null
Is there something I am missing from the Front Door tutorial to get the ClientPrincipal to be populated still?
