SQL 2019 Dev and Availability Zone/Group?

Yet to fully deploy and test, however the instructions here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/sql/virtual-machines-windows-sql-availability-group-quickstart-template mention only 2016/7 are supported. Is this still valid as i was looking at pushing our 2019 SQL?

Also..

Availability zones/groups - are these definitely required or not? Same link: under prerequisits: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/sql/virtual-machines-windows-sql-availability-group-quickstart-template
