command injection fails in a subshell/inside a VM

IE doesn't work when a command involves spinning up a new shell as part of the current doc. An example is SSHing into a VM. After doing so, ie can't run subsequent commands inside the VM. This is blocking some docs and would love to get it in IE so we can run sudo and other commands inside a VM
