### Description

Running into some audio routing issues with the volume control. When connected to Bluetooth, my headphones (WH1000XM4) would not allow me to switch between Headset and Handsfree, making it impossible to use the mic. Also, when I plugged in the headphones with an audio cable, it did not switch between the two modes at all.

I was eventually able to switch by using Pavucontrol. It seems like there’s a missing configuration tool to handle these configuration switches at this time. (This is mentioned in #1505, but it does not touch on the Bluetooth issue—trying to offer more detail because I ran into this in multiple contexts.)

Also, if there’s anything that can be done to help make the routing a little more clear, this is what I’m seeing on my end. It is not clear what’s available and what’s not:

(To be clear, I only have my headphones and my speakers and am not plugged into HDMI or DisplayPort at this time.)

### Expected Behavior

When I plug in my headphones it should switch to those as the default device. Also it should be possible to swap between Headset and Handsfree mode on a Bluetooth device.

### Steps to Reproduce & Installation Method

1. Plug in a pair of headphones or connect via Bluetooth
2. Attempt to change audio routing

Research direction

No source files, tests, or entry points are named. Start by reproducing the routing behavior with Bluetooth and cabled headphones on the reported setup, then inspect the existing volume-control UI and compare its available device and profile switching with Pavucontrol. Done means headphones become the default when connected and Bluetooth Headset/Handsfree profiles can be selected.
