Awaiting payment: let cart content expire for less confusion

A lot of users get confused by this message after adding a plan / creating multiple sites by mistake, especially when they already paid for another plan:


I think it would be a nice enhancement to make the cart automatically clear after, say 1 day. HEs would then get less of these requests. I think I must get at least one of these requests a day, so if this was implemented, we would save some time focusing on other tickets.

The issue does not name files, tests, or an entry point. Start by tracing where the payment cart is stored and where the “Awaiting payment” message is rendered; done means cart contents are automatically cleared after approximately one day and the confusing message no longer persists.
