Description

When you enable automated rates, Services sets some default options in the Tax Options settings and disables most of the fields. The one confusing part brought to us in a ticket was that the "Display prices during cart and checkout" setting is set to Excluding taxes but this isn't true. It actually does show taxes on the cart and checkout page when applicable.

Is there a way to have that default set to Including tax, as that's the true setting and won't confuse customers. In this case the customer was trying to test tax rates and wasn't getting them to display, and they were wondering if it was due to this set to Excluding tax. They of course weren't able to change that since the field is disabled.

Research direction

Start at the Tax Options settings used when automated rates are enabled; the issue does not identify a source file or test. Reproduce the disabled “Display prices during cart and checkout” setting and trace how its default is selected. Done means the setting defaults to “Including tax” while automated rates are enabled and the displayed behavior matches that choice.
