Add remote data to pattern overrides

It doesn't seem like I can add remote data to a synced pattern. The pattern overrides let me input content but I'm not offered any options in the inspector sidebar. I can add remote data as a bit, but I can't do it via the dropdown within the remote data block. If I detach the instance of the pattern then I can do it but It won't work while it's still synced.
