Chromecast: controls not working properly

When I am casting something to a Chromecast device, there are currently no playback controls shown on the lock screen and the control center doesn't seem to allow me to adjust volume etc. You need to open the Pocket Casts app to control the playback.

In #5283286-zen though, the user is getting the controls to show occasionally:

We initially told the user this is not possible due to the Chromecast SDK, however, I noticed Spotify works correctly when casting and I can control the media on the lockscreen:

The issue provides no file, test, or entry point. Start by reproducing Chromecast playback and checking the lock screen and Control Center behavior; done means playback and volume controls appear and work consistently without opening Pocket Casts.
