#### Steps to reproduce the issue
In the Customizer, go to the Content Options menu and under the **Blog Display** label select **Post excerpt** option.
Once the option is selected, automatic excepts will be created on the site but it will also create an empty p tag right after the More tag. I've tested it on several themes, as well as in a default WordPress theme (Twenty Seventeen):

Start by reproducing the issue in the WordPress Customizer under Content Options > Blog Display with Post excerpt selected, then inspect the generated markup around the More tag. Done means automatic excerpts still appear without an empty p tag immediately after the More tag, including in the tested themes.
