Setup fails to transfer passwords (under linux)

When i use the blog in a box installer on my linux machine, it finishes with the message "Please re-insert your SD card" -- I never took it out or unmounted it our something else. The resultine image on the sd card works, but all the passwords are wrong. I can't login into wordpress or via ssh. It doesn't matter if I use the passwords the installer generated, or if I replace those with "my" password.

I get these results on my linux box with an up to date arch linux (I downloaded blog-in-a-box-1.0.10.tar.gz, unpacked the archive and simply started the blog-in-a-box binary) and with a virtual machine with Ubuntu 16.10 where I installed the programm via the provided deb file). I don't get any messages inside the terminal for debugging, other than...

The message on the screen looks like this. After this I have to force quit the application.


Reproduce the setup with the blog-in-a-box-1.0.10 binary or provided deb file on Arch Linux or Ubuntu 16.10, and observe the “Please re-insert your SD card” step. Investigate why the resulting image contains unusable WordPress and SSH passwords; done means setup completes without forcing the application to quit and both login methods accept the generated or replacement passwords.
