404 messages proliferating after installation (site no longer usable)

Hi,

I installed the plugin following the instructions, and I modified the permalink configuration to use one of the pretty URL options.

after saving, any page I look for gets an "it" (being Italian the default language) piece inserted, and pages are no longer found.

am I missing something in the configuration?

Reproduce the problem by following the installation instructions, selecting a pretty permalink option, and saving the configuration with Italian as the default language. Trace how the plugin adds the language segment to requested URLs; done means configured pages resolve normally instead of returning 404 responses.
