Description

I'm importing model from Houdini as usd.
In houdini normals are set to vertex, soft 180 degrees.
When importing into maya, normals are hard.
First one is alembic, second is default usd, and third one is one where I set face orientation to right handed (with mesh edit node in Solaris):

When we look at uv's they are broken too:

Tried both in maya 2024.2 and 2026.2
Is there any workaround? Or we should revert back to alembics...

Research direction

Reproduce the Houdini-to-USD import in Maya 2024.2 or 2026.2 using vertex normals softened to 180 degrees, then compare the imported normals and UVs with the Alembic result shown in the report. Done means the USD import preserves the expected smooth normals and unbroken UVs, or documents a confirmed workaround.
