# Economic Incentives for Files Formatted for LLMs

The adoption of a standard for files specially formatted for LLMs should balance the interests of the websites providing the content and the LLMs consuming it.

Currently, the benefit is disproportionately tilted towards LLMs, while websites invest resources without proportional returns.

To correct this dynamic, I propose implementing a microtransaction system based on cryptocurrencies.

## Cryptocurrency Microdonations

Websites adopting the proposed format (e.g., "llms.txt," "llms.md," or "*.llms") could request small cryptocurrency donations to grant access to their content for interested LLMs.

- **Credit-Based Model:** Donations would be converted into credits, used to download the formatted files.
- **Access to Metadata:** Any donation, even minimal, would ensure access to detailed metadata about the available files without consuming credits.

## Choice of Cryptocurrency

- **Existing Cryptocurrencies:** Widely used cryptocurrencies could be adopted.
- **Creating an Exclusive Cryptocurrency:** Another option would be to develop a specific cryptocurrency optimized for LLM transactions.

## Pricing Model

- **Suggested Price:** A default value of approximately the equivalent of $1 USD per megabyte of downloaded file, with flexibility for each website to adjust prices based on the perceived value of their content.
- **Variable Pricing:** Websites with more specialized or valuable content could adjust prices according to demand and economic context.

## Metadata Structure

Metadata would be accessible after any donation and would provide crucial details for LLMs to evaluate files before downloading them.

The metadata file could be general (covering all the website's files) or specific to a single file.

The included data would be:

- File name.
- File size (in bytes).
- Content origin (human, LLM, or collaborative).
- Authors’ names, if available, or the LLMs used.
- Creation and last update dates.
- Brief summary (maximum of one sentence).
- File price.
- Other relevant information.

This would allow LLMs to make more precise choices about which files to acquire, optimizing transactions.

## Current Situation

Today, websites offering files specially formatted for LLMs would face an economic imbalance.

They bear the costs of creating and maintaining content, while LLMs gain free access to valuable information.

Additionally, many websites would lose revenue generated from traditional HTML formats, often supported by advertising.

A microtransaction-based incentive system corrects this distortion, creating a sustainable model.

## Proposal Benefits

- **Boosting the Content Economy for LLMs:** The model encourages the creation of content specially formatted for LLMs, promoting higher quality materials.

This system would create a fairer relationship between content producers and LLMs while fostering a new digital economy focused on artificial intelligence.
