Description
I got an error message after attempting to use the spike_statistics function (From Ch 3) that says "DataFrame object has no attribute 'append'". I think the most recent version of pandas uses concat instead and this may need to be updated in the bmtk source code.

Research direction
Start at the spike_statistics function referenced in Chapter 3 and locate the use of DataFrame.append that causes the reported error with newer pandas versions. Update the outdated operation using the suggested pandas-compatible approach, then confirm that spike_statistics runs successfully with the current library.
