Persistence of semagrams in Jupyter notebooks

Suppose you create a semagram in a Jupyter notebook, save it, close the notebook, and shut down the kernel. When you reopen the notebook and rerun the cells, the semagram is lost.

It seems very important to be able to persist semagrams across notebook runs. I don't know exactly how this should work, but I assume it could be done by storing a JSON blob inside the notebook.
