Description

The python2.7 end of life may be as close as 2.5 years away.
I just discovered that the regtests tags will not build with the latest python release and had to use python2.7 instead. The error looked pretty trivial but I didn't spend any time on it.

It would be nice if all the python scripts in the aws project were checked against python 3.5 to ensure there's not an unnecessary requirement on an old version on python.

It's not critical. yet....

Research direction

Start by locating the Python scripts used by the regtests tags and run the AWS build with Python 3.5 to reproduce the reported incompatibility. Check the scripts for unnecessary Python 2.7 requirements and verify that the relevant build completes under Python 3.5.
