Adaway not blocking inapp ads

I got a new phone Xiaomi Mi5s and rooted it and installed adaway. It works sometimes but often it does not. For example it does not block youtube ads in the youtube app. I still have my old phone and with all the same settings it works there. The difference is that phone is running android 5.1 as my new phone is running 6.0.1.

Anyone know how to make it work on android 6 and 7?
