controller is detected in the test section, and can map bindings in joystick mapper

### Detailed Explaination of Issue
the controller is detected fine and responds within system preferences and the joystick mapper app. however, outside those apps, the buttons on the controller do not seem to be having any effect. i have tested the bindings in joystick mapper and they light up when the corresponding buttons are pressed.
